Distinguished Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai is an accomplished Public Servant and an Accountant per excellence who served the former Borno State, Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum and the Federal Government.

Early Life and Education
A humble, taciturn, urbane intelligent but highly un-assuming, Distinguished Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai was born in Maiduguri. He started his Primary Education at Argungu when his father was under the service of the defunct Northern Nigeria Government and completed it in 1972 at the prestigious Shehu Garbai primary School in Maiduguri, as his father moved to Maiduguri upon creation of the North Eastern State.
Distinguished Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai had his secondary education at the then famous Government Secondary School Maiduguri from 1973- 1977 that was later renamed Government College Maiduguri. After completing his secondary education, he proceeded to kaduna polytechnic where he obtained his Ordinary National Diploma in 1980 and Higher National Diploma in 1982 both in Accountancy.
After completing his National Youth Service at the College of Education Nsugbe in Anambra State in 1983, where he served as a lecturer he got appointment into the service of Borno State Accelerated Development Agricultural Programme as Finance Officer and later moved to Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri as a Senior Accountant in 1985 and rose to the position of a Principal Accountant and Acting Bursar in 1986. On the establishment of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum in 1988 he was appointed as Assistant Chief Accountant and Acting Bursar of the Institution. His exceptional and creditable performance led to his confirmation as the pioneer substantive Bursar of the College. After successful completion of his tenure as the Bursar of that College he transferred his service to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation in 2002 and was posted as an Assistant Director to the Federal Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory as Head of Audit and was later appointed as the Auditor-General of the Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Distinguished Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai was appointed to the exalted position of Director Treasury of the Federal Capital Territory Administration in 2008 a position which is akin to that of an Accountant General of a State. He executed this position marvelously well and improved revenue generation of the Federal Capital Territory as well as brought robust deployment e-accounting software which eased Financial Management towards attaining cost effective and efficient utilization of government finances. As the Director FCT Treasury, the Distinguished Senator had served as Acting Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory on a number of occasions.
Acquisition of Higher Academic Qualifications, Professional Certificates, Fellowships and Awards
Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai during his public service career acquired higher academic qualifications, professional certificates, membership of professional bodies, commendations, awards, other accolades and recognitions. He obtained Post Graduate Dipoma in Financial management and Masters Degree in Business Administration from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi as well as professional certificates in Finance and Management at Harvard, Cambridge Boston in the United States and the London School of Management.
The Distinguished Senator is a fellow of the Association of the National Accountants of Nigeria, Fellow Charted Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Fellow Charted Institute of Management of Nigeria, Fellow Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, Member Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Member Institute of Management Specialists United Kingdom and Member Nigeria Institute of Managements Consultants.
Distinguished Senator Bomai as a result of his ingenuity, humbleness, hard work, rare managerial acumen and strategic approach to challenges and problem solving garnered so many laurels, awards and honours both in his academic pursuits and career in the public service.
Key among those recognitions, commendations and awards include commendation from the Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum for management of good work for the smooth take off of the Staff School of the college, creditable work as member merit award committee, commendation on task on the committee for salary verification. Award as first position on performance by staff on EUSS 14 and above, distinction in Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Award of Excellence of Governing Council of Chartered Institute of Treasury Management, Best Performing Director of the Year 2012 in FCTA, Distinguished Meritorious Service Award ( Gold) by the African Independence Magazine, Outstanding Prowess in Administrative Matters Award by the Council of the Institute of Corporate Administration and Good Leadership Award by the African Expression News Media.
Ad-hoc Responsibilities in Service
Some of his ad-hoc responsibilities and assignment while in the service of FCE Technical Potiskum include Chairmanship of Committee on Investigation of Ethical Misconduct and Academic Incompetence, Member Minor Works Committee, Member Appointments and Promotions Committee, Member Admissions Committee, Member Committee on Review of Accounting System of Federal Colleges of Education and Secretary-General Committee of Bursars of Federal Colleges of Education.
During his service at the defunct Ministry of Federal Capital Territory and Federal Capital Territory Administration, the Distinguished Senator left an indelible mark of performance and achievements as a member or Chairman of numerous committees that have added significant value towards functional, effective and efficient management of both capital and human resources. Some of these responsibilities and assignments include Chairmanship of Committee on Investigations of Impropriety in Finances of FCT Area Councils Service Commission, Member Salary verification Committee FCTA, Member FCTA Budget and Funds Disbursement Committee, Member FCTA Public Accounts Committee, Member FCTA Executive Committee, Member Presidential Committee on Monetization of Fringe Benefits of Federal Government Parastatals, Member Technical Committee on Winding up of Ministry of Federal Capital Territory, National Coordinator Committee of Auditors-General of Local Governments in Nigeria, Member FCT Joint Area Councils Allocations Committee (JAAC) and Member Federal Accounts Allocation Committee.
Becoming a Distinguished Senator
After bowing out from an illustrious and remarkable Public Service Career in 2016, his people of Yobe South recognizing his gigantic philanthropic gestures which include scholarship and feeding of the indigent, which is legendary, requested him to serve them in the political arena. Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai answered the clarion call of his people of Yobe South and declared his intention to vie for the position of Governor of Yobe State under the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, the Almighty Allah has not destined him to be a Governor but a Senator. As a Senator, Distinguished Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai is the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Communications and Member Committees on Petroleum Upstream, Niger Delta, Environment, Establishment, Police Affairs and FERMA.
